    The Universities predominantly impart theoretical knowledge. The courses are academic-oriented and are available in different disciplines. Although, many Universities provide specialization to students in a specific subject area and these are named technical universities or colleges of education. The Universities can run doctoral programs whereas Universities of Applied Sciences can not.

     

    Universities of Applied Sciences:

     

    These institutions offer industry-oriented courses and the purpose is to inculcate competencies which could make students job-ready at the earliest. The focus is more on practical application or applied concepts than theory in the areas of technology, social work, economics or medicine.

     

    Colleges of Art, Film and Music:

     

    Students learn artistic subjects in these institutions, such as visual arts, drama, music, dance, fashion & industrial design, etc. Admission to these courses requires students to exhibit their interest and talent in this field at the time of admissions. However, it is important to note that most of these colleges teach programs in the German language.

     

    There is no centralized system to regulate higher education in Germany. All 16 federal states have their higher-education guidelines. Moreover, the Universities are given a lot of autonomy and independence. The admission criteria, courses, admission process, etc depend upon the particular university and thus it varies across Germany.

    Cost of Study In Germany.

    The expenses to be incurred for studying in Germany can comprise of tuition fees, living costs and insurance etc. The cost also depends on what degree you are pursuing i.e. Technical, Management etc. and also varies according to the type of institutes i.e. public or private. Most of the technical programs in Germany will not be having any tuition fees and the students would have to pay a minimal amount of approximately € 500 per semester. The living cost in Germany is approximately € 8700 per year. However if the student is going for any of the business programs then the average tuition fee would be approximately € 11000 to € 14000.

    Visa Process to Study In germany

On the other hand, nationals of non-Schengen countries are permitted to enter the whole area with one unified document known as the Schengen Visa.

     

    The main purpose of the Schengen is the abolishment of border control between member states, which allows free and equal access to the citizens of any of the below mentioned countries, including Germany.

     

    When in Germany, you are allowed to visit all the other members of the Schengen Zone: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

     

    Nevertheless, there are always exceptions to the rule. Depending on your nationality you may, or may not be required to obtain a Schengen visa first in order to be permitted to enter the Schengen Zone, and Germany at the same time.

     

    The short-stay Schengen visa allows its holders to enter and reside in Germany for a maximum period of 90 days (3 months) within a 180 days period. However, during this time you are not entitled to engage in paid activity.
