The Higher Education system in Spain is classified into 3 broad degree levels: Graduate Degrees, Post Graduate/Master Degrees & Doctoral Degrees.

The Graduate Degrees are awarded in areas like health sciences, social sciences, humanities, arts, engineering, law, and architecture. Generally, the academic duration of a graduate degree is either 3 or 4 years and students have to complete 240 credits to earn it.

The Post-graduate degrees vary from 1to 2 year in length and are available in all fields as graduate degrees above. Students have to complete 60-120 credits to obtain a post-graduate degree and in a few courses, students have to submit a thesis and complete the required credits to get the Master degree.

A Master degree is a pre-requisite to get a Doctoral degree in Spain. Doctoral studies are divided into 2 stages: Theoretical study & the second stage is research-based. The typical duration of a doctoral course is 3 to 4 years, however, extensions are provided comfortably to students who are taking more time due to some sound reasons.

    Cost of Study.

Attending college in Spain is something that you will certainly enjoy, but it is also something that you must plan for. One of the things that you need to consider is the cost that attending college in Spain will accrue.

You will be happy to know that the costs of attending college in Spain are very reasonable, especially compared to other European countries, as well as the U.S. And, you can get all of the affordability along with a great education. So just how much does it cost to go to college in Spain?

That all depends. Several things factor in on the money that it will take to attain your education, including, of course, the university that you choose, the courses you want to major in, etc. It is also affected by financial assistance that you may be entitled too, though the Spain Education Board does not handle financial aid for international students.

We do have average costs available for you, however. Those average costs are as follows:

    • A bachelor’s degree in education can cost you anywhere between 680 and 1,280 Euros per school year when attending a public university.
    • The amount that it will cost you to attend the university is a fixed amount that is set in place by the Autonomous Community, though the central government can set amounts of tuition costs of schools within their area.
    • Fees for attending a private university to earn a bachelor’s degree vary between 5,500 and 18,000 Euros per school year.
    • For Master’s or Doctoral degrees, university fees at public institutions are also government regulated and vary between 22 and 36 Euros per credit.

If you attend a university in Spain and drop out only to want to enroll again at a later time the amount that you will spend on tuition will increase. Those who are on their second round at college may find costs of attending school to earn a bachelor’s degree up to 2100 Euros per school year, while third round or more could cause your tuition costs to increase to as much as 33 Euros per semester or more.  Earning a Master’s degree could result in tuition costs of as much as 34 Euros for second-time students. Second-time Ph.D. students may find that they are paying as much as 55 Euros per semester to get their education.
